Desert Rats Challenge

Young People At The Desert Rats Challenge

On Saturday, Derby County Community Trust attended the ‘Desert Rats Challenge’ hosted by the British Army at Chetwynd Barracks.

Designed to challenge their teamwork, problem solving and communication skills, the group of 14–17-year-olds were put through a variety of tasks based on military exercises. On the day the group took part in an assault course, first aid scenarios, command tasks amongst other activities.

The trip is part of the Trust’s Volunteer Academy and provided them an opportunity to come together and further develop the skills they will use on their volunteer journey and in future roles.

David Goulding, Inclusion Officer (Community Engagement), said: “It’s great that we can offer these opportunities to our young people and develop our relationship with the British Army.

“It was good to see the young people getting out of their comfort zone and experiencing things that they wouldn’t normally get to do. It’s given them the chance develop skills that they are going to need throughout their lives in a new way.”
