Rams in Kenya

Life Changing Life Changing

The Trip of a Lifetime

Rams in Kenya is an annual trip to the schools in the slums of Nakuru, Kenya, which invites Derby County fans, Derby County Community Trust supporters or simply anyone with an interest to take on the trip of a lifetime and improve life for children in the project’s five partner schools.

Since 2012, over 300 volunteers have taken on the adventure, supporting our partner schools and their pupils to flourish. Facilitated by African Adventures, the trip benefits the Derby County Community Trust and also the impoverished areas around Nakuru, in Kenya.

The trips scheduled for 2020 and 2021 were unfortunately unable to go ahead due to the Coronavirus pandemic, but we have full plans in place for 2022 to restart our adventure and help those who now need the support more than ever.

We work in five partner schools to improve sanitation, build new classrooms or facilities and increase safety measures. We also support teaching and physical activity within the schools.

The schools we work with are:

  • Ungana
  • Mama Kerry
  • Jubilee
  • Cherish
  • Chaddy Mission

Volunteers also get the opportunity to take part in the Rift Valley Adventure Day which is a visit to the Nakuru National Safari, Thompson Falls and the Equator. There is also the chance to visit the Menengai Crater, an elephant orphanage and the Giraffe Centre in Nairobi.

2022 Trip Details

We are thrilled to have plans in place for 2022's return to Nakuru. The trip will have a one week and two week option, making it flexible for those who may have to work around school holidays.

One week option: 28th May - 5th June 2022
£1925 (£195 deposit required to secure space)

Two week option: 21st May - 5th June 2022
£2625 (£195 deposit required to secure space)

Rams in Kenya 2022

"It's special out there. I was given the opportunity for a funded placement for the Kenya trip and now I've been for the past six years. It's been life-changing, it's opened my eyes. The people out there haven't got much but they're still happy and they're proud. I came back a totally different person."
