Pivotal save sparks epic comeback!
A brilliant save from goalkeeper Sam sparked a phenomenal comeback for our Central Division Four Football and Education team, who overturned a two-goal deficit to claim all three points.
Derby had found themselves two goals down and were on the ropes on 59 minutes when opponents Northampton Town were awarded a penalty. Goalkeeper Sam had other ideas and saved the spot-kick, inspiring his team mates to counter down to the other end and get a goal back.
From the restart, the Rams won the ball back almost immediately and broke through to feed the lively number nine, who made no mistake in bringing the game level.
The drama didn’t stop there as Derby, again from the restart, pressed high to put the pressure on, this time the number five was the hero, scoring a very well taken goal to put Derby ahead for the first time in the game – a lead they’d go onto defend to earn all three points and move onto level points with the league leaders.
Elsewhere in Central Division One, the Rams were beaten 2-1 at home to West Brom, whilst in North Central Division One, Derby fell to a 6-2 defeat at Burnley.
