Meet Sam
For 50-year-old Sam, starting a new job that was less active than her previous and losing the motivation to exercise and follow a healthy diet led to her signing up for Fit Fans.
“Fit Fans came to my attention at the perfect time for me. I was demotivated, not eating healthily very often and needed to make a change as I’m not getting any younger! I had also changed jobs. I went from an on the go all day job to a sitting at a computer a lot of the day job. This hasn’t helped with my weight starting to increase.”
The 12-week programme helped Sam find her motivation again and supported her to get back to the healthy habits she knew she needed to follow.
She explained: “It reminded me of the importance of healthy eating, especially as getting older and ensuring I don’t have any ill health due to weight gain and inactivity. It also helped me be aware of food labels, empty calories and the benefits of calorie counting but did it in an informative and fun classes each week.
“The exercise classes have been great fun to do within a friendly group, with alternatives given to those who needed it, which ensured everyone could enjoy some exercise. I enjoyed the variety and being motivated to do the most I could, with great music and the instructors’ support.”
She lost 0.7kg on the programme and 17cm off her waist but more importantly it has helped set her up to continue her journey to having a healthy balanced lifestyle.
“Joining a group of likeminded ladies, who want to make a change was what I needed. I have looked forward to every group session, the instructors have been great fun, making the different topics interesting and informative, from quizzes to discussions. Everyone has been supportive of each other’s achievements, no matter how small a step and this has been a great motivator for myself. The exercise classes have reignited my interest in doing exercise, ensuring I pushed myself each week to do the most I could, Fit Fans has been an immense benefit to my health and re-motivated me to continue to plan exercise into my week and make more healthy food choices.”
