Physical Health and Activity Officer

Derby County Community Trust has a clear mission.  We harness the power of Derby County Football Club to improve lives and communities through sport, physical activity, health and education.  We help more than 25,000 people per year and our work is recognised and respected at regional and national levels.  Since 2008 we have been encouraging participation and achievement in sport, improving health and wellbeing, providing and enhancing education and promoting equality and diversity.

We care about our community; we care about our people.  We have an exciting opportunity for a Physical Activity & Health Officer to join our Health team, working within our Active Schools and Live IT programmes to support children and their families to adopt and maintain a healthy lifestyle.

Within this role you will support delivery of the Active Schools programme, working with primary schools to increase physical activity levels in fun and easy ways across the whole school community, and the Live IT programme, which is a child weight management programme supporting children and young people aged 5 to 17 who are overweight to lose weight.

We are specifically seeking a candidate who is confident in supporting more complex cases within our child weight management programmes.  This will involve working with smaller groups of clients who are severely obese and have a range of co-morbidities, to support children to lose weight, get fitter and improve their mental health and wellbeing so that they feel confident and able to join our main Live IT community.

The ideal candidate will have experience in delivering physical activity and group-based activities to children and young people, with knowledge and experience of personal health plans, behaviour change programmes and principles.  An excellent communicator, skilled in working with integrity, professionalism and discretion, you will possess a good understanding of health inequalities and the ability to work with families around key health issues.

In return we can offer:

  • Excellent CPD, training & development opportunities
  • 24/7 Employee Assistance helpline
  • Cash health plan
  • Death in service benefit (3x salary)
  • Free access to Derby County Community Trust Health & Fitness Sessions
  • 2 complimentary DCFC season tickets
  • 20% discount at DCFC Megastore
  • 28 days’ leave (including bank holidays), increasing by 1 day for each completed year of service up to a maximum of 33 days (including bank holidays)
  • Annual Christmas shutdown (no annual leave required)

DCCT Grade 3:  Salary - £21,735 - £25,357.50 (full time equivalent).  Candidates will normally be offered a starting salary at the lower end of the range.

This role is full time (52 weeks per year) or can be offered as a term time contract on a pro-rata basis (40 weeks per year) and initially fixed term for a period of 12 months.
