Megan's Story

Meet Megan

Megan was part of our degree programme in 2017 and joined the Trust’s programme because of the unique experiences it was able to offer.

“I chose the degree as it was distance learning,” she explained. “I liked being able to live at home whilst studying. It also allowed me the time to work part time and gain experience in the field of work.”

During her time studying with the Trust Megan was involved in a number of placements and found them beneficial and something that set the Trust apart from other universities.

She said: “The opportunity to get experience or employment within the trust puts you at such an advantage compared to other mainstream universities.”

Megan’s time on the degree opened her eyes to the opportunities that were available to her in sport and community work away from just coaching football.

She explained: “I had always had a passion for football, but it opened my eyes to the community and sport development side of football. I soon realised I preferred the one-to-one element with young people and knew I wanted a career working within the community.”

This led Megan to studying a master’s degree in Youth Work and Community Development and she now works as a Senior Youth Mental Health Practitioner for the NHS.

She credits the success in her new career to the skills and abilities she developed studying on our degree.

“I currently work for the NHS and manage a youth work service and a team,” She explained. “The degree taught me how to manage a football team but also the different individuals, which I use when managing my staffing team. I also include sport and my knowledge with the young people I engage.

“I learnt a number of different skills that have been extremely beneficial in my career. I have learnt how to juggle different demands and prioritise my workload. I’ve gained a lot of confidence through doing the degree.”
