Mark's Story

Meet Mark
Mark Armitage started his fitness journey back in 2020 when he joined our Fit Fans Programme. Weighing over 18 stone when he joined the programme he has since lost four stone thanks to what he has learnt on the programme.
"A switch to working from home enabled me to commit to the programme and invest more time on my well-being. It was great that I was offered a place and I found the sessions really informative, especially around nutrition and calorie intake. The sessions are split between education and group exercise sessions, which works really well."
Mark’s commitment to his weight loss journey saw him begin tracking his calories to help his progress and increase his average daily step count to 16,000 from 5000. He has has taken up running, which has seen him complete both the Derby 5 Mile and the Derby 10K. His sights are now set on completing the half marathon on Sunday 19th June to fundraise for the Trust.
"I signed up to Fit Fans to try and become fitter and more active, for me it wasn’t focused on weight loss.
"I completed the Derby 5 Mile in November 2021 and the Derby 10k earlier this month, with a focus now on training for the half marathon, which will be a test of both my physical and mental strength. I am looking to raise donations to help DCCT support more people like me as I personally found the fit fans sessions invaluable, with a clear focus on keeping active along with more insight on calorie intake.
“The exercise sessions are well structured and can be challenging (you will get a sweat on!), but very rewarding. The group keep in touch and support each other via a dedicated WhatsApp group, which allows for regular updates and a few laughs.”
