World Mental Health Day: We're in Your Corner!

Monday 10th October marks World Mental Health Day and Derby County Community Trust have launched their ‘We’re In Your Corner’ campaign to mark the occasion.
The movement encompasses the Trust’s commitment to mental wellbeing across their programmes.
Winning Minds is their school-based project designed to help pupils overcome stressful moments, including SATs and transition from primary to secondary school. It supports those from aged 11 through secondary school.
Their Tackle It and GREAT Hub sessions support 11-25 year olds beyond an educational setting, with popular community hubs running across Derby. Participants are encouraged to work together on social cause which mean a lot to them, and summer they collected over 50 bundles of school uniform to distribute to families.
Team Talk, is their nationally recognised men’s mental health programme designed to provide a safe space to talk, with several hubs running weekly across the city. The project is now ran by several other clubs, helping to make a difference and reduce the stigma associated with mental health nationally.
Get Set to Go is the Trust’s long-standing football session, designed to support participants with complex mental health needs to participate in physical activity on a weekly basis.
2022 also marks ten years of the Active Choices programme, which has supported over 1,000 participants through recovery from alcohol and substance misuse.
The Community Trust use the power of Derby County to improve lives, and the power of football to engage participants to open up about their feelings and potential struggles has proven to be highly successful.
The ‘We’re In Your Corner’ campaign aims to help people understand that there are sessions and programmes available for anybody who may be struggling with their mental wellbeing.
Luke Wilkinson, Health Team Leader at Derby County Community Trust, said:
“This World Mental Health Day we want to remind everyone that there is help available for anybody who might not be dealing their best.
“Some people may want to engage in physical activity and have a kickabout, whereas others may just want somewhere they can have a coffee and chat to others.
“We aim to provide a service that makes everyone feel comfortable, and if participants are in need of additional support then we work with some fantastic partners to ensure that we are providing each person with the best support that we can.”
To celebrate World Mental Health Day, supporters now have the chance to win an exclusive signed corner flag, to recongnise the ‘We’re In Your Corner’ campaign. The flag will be signed by club captain Curtis Davies and presented in a commemorative frame.
