A strong performance gives Derby the win
Our female Football and Education side put in a strong performance to beat Sheffield United 3-1, with Lauren having the pick of the performances as she was named Player of the Match.
Derby started on the front foot and took the lead in the opening 15 minutes when a corner was turned home after it had pinballed around the area. Derby’s efforts were rewarded midway through the half as they added a deserved second. They thought they had stretched their lead just before the break as the ball hit the back of the net for a third time, but it was ruled out for offside as the gap stayed at two at the break.
The second half continued in a similar fashion to the first, with Derby on top in the contest and they had a chance to extend their advantage at the start of the half but the effort was saved. They did add a third midway through the half, with arguably the best goal of the game. A corner was cleared to the edge of the area where it was guided back into the bottom corner for Derby’s third.
Sheffield United did pull a goal back but it was not enough to unsettle the Derby side who kept their two-goal lead until the final whistle.
