Steven Caulker Talks to Active Choices

Professional Footballer, Steven Caulker, has played for Spurs, Liverpool, QPR and made an appearance in the England squad 2012. His career seemed to be steadily flourishing but his gambling and alcohol abuse soon pulled the brakes on his success in the Premier League.

Now residing abroad and playing football in Turkey, Steven is on the road to recovery.

On Thursday 18th February 2021, Steven took time out to speak to our Active Choices participants to give an authentic and honest telling of his battle with his mental health and addictive behaviours.

Active Choices supports individuals with getting more active and maintaining routine as they recover from substance misuse as well as providing sustainable exit routes for participants. Click below to find out more.

Two years sober and feeling optimistic about his future career in football and role as a father, Steven wants to showcase his positive changes to benefit others and the importance of asking for help.

Adam Rowley, Health Team Leader said:

"We thank Steven for his kindness in agreeing to share his story with our participants, who have struggled with the same issues as him.

Our participants were able to identify with Steven’s story and take inspiration from his journey, that they can implement within their own recoveries."
