Silverhill Bow Out at Utilita Kids Cup Semi-Final
Derby County Community Trust made the semi final of the Utilita Kids Cup but missed out on a spot in the final after a penalty shoot out loss to eventual winners Luton Town.
The side from Silverhill Primary School started the day strongly and won four of their first five games in the group stages of the tournament. The second half of group games saw them continue their good performances in some close contests that they were unfortunate to be on the losing side in. A 4-0 win over Peterborough United in their final group game was enough for them to reach the last four as runners up of their group.
Their semi final opponents, Luton Town had won their group and took the lead against Derby. The Rams hit back though as both sides looked for a winner. Neither was able to find a way through, and it went to penalties. Luton scored with their first two kicks, while after a successful first kick, Derby’s second struck the post and stayed out. That allowed Luton to fire in their third kick and book their place in the final.
Alex Cartwright, who organised the tournament for Derby, said: "The team from Silverhill earned their place to represent Derby after taking the title at our local tournament, where over 30 schools took part. The Utilita Kids Cup is a highlight in our annual calendar and we are proud of the team who did so well to get so far in this season's competition."
