Semi final loss despite a good performance
Our female Football and Education side missed out on a place in the EFL CEFA U19s Women’s Cup Final with defeat away to Peterborough United. Despite a strong performance, with player of the match Millie starring, the side were behind at the break. They pulled themselves back into the game before a long-range effort and a penalty gave the hosts the win.
Derby had the first real chance of the game on seven minutes as they forced the Peterborough ‘keeper into a good save. They then went close again as a shot drifted just wide of the mark. Derby continued to control proceedings and almost took the lead as a long-range effort struck the underside of the bar and bounced down onto the line before being claimed by the host’s ‘keeper. At the end of the half Peterborough took the lead from the penalty spot.
Within 10 minutes of the restart Derby were deservedly level. A good move down the right was worked across goal and fired home from inside the area. Peterborough moved back in front five minutes later though with a long-range strike. Derby looked to respond and forced a save from the Peterborough ‘keeper before a headed effort looped over the bar. A second spot kick mid-way through the half was converted to give the hosts a two-goal lead before they finished with a flurry of chances, hitting the woodwork twice and drawing a strong save from the Derby ‘keeper.
Elsewhere our other Football and Education games ended with a win and two defeats, with plenty of strong performances and positives to take from the games.
