Derby County Named Midlands Community Club of the Year

All regional winners will be recognised at an event at the House of Commons today, 2nd March. Winners from other parts of the EFL network are: Middlesbrough, Cardiff City, Crawley Town, Charlton and Wigan.

Derby County’s commitment to the community through the Trust has been previously recognised with the regional accolade in 2013, 2014, 2015 and 2018. In both 2015 and 2018 the overall award for Community Club of the Year was received by Derby County Community Trust.

This year’s national winner will be announced at the EFL Awards on the 19th April. The Trust has been specifically recognised for working with over 30,000 individuals in 2019 - its highest number to date. Commitment to creating meaningful experiences and working closely with a range of partners impressed the judges and the impact of the Club’s work is apparent across the community.

Investment from funders including the Department for Education, Home Office, Macmillan Cancer Support, Sport England and local councils, along with generating income from events including the flagship Derby 10K, has seen over £3 million invested into communities across 2019.

Simon Carnall, Head of Community, said, “We are thrilled to have been recognised as the Midlands Community Club of the Year after the busiest year in our 25-year history.

“Not only have we worked with more participants than ever before, but our turnover has increased and our workforce continues to develop and provide so many valuable services to Derby and Derbyshire’s communities.

“Our projects go far beyond the traditional outreach of a football club – from providing cancer rehabilitation exercise to working with our partners in the arts to support social mobility.

“It’s fantastic for our staff to be recognised for the incredible work they do everyday and for our participants to see what we’re achieving together, and we’re looking forward to today’s celebrations and the EFL Awards in April.”
