The Power of PE Conference

Derby County Community Trust hosted the Power of PE Conference at Pride Park Stadium. Taking place on Friday 26th May, the conference was sponsored by TSS Resources and was attended by PE teachers from across the city along with experts from within the sector.

Focusing on the impact that PE can have all aspects of a student’s lives within schools the day started with a keynote speech from Sue Wilkinson MBE, who is the CEO for the Association for Physical Education. That was followed by a talk from Will Swaithes, who has worked for 13 years as a secondary school teacher and supports PE teachers with CPD.

The teachers at the conference then took part in workshops that focused on different aspects of PE and the impact that they have on students. The day ended with a session that helped teachers prepare for a deep dive into PE during an Ofsted visit, supporting them to develop and deliver high quality lessons for their students

Jack Southwart, Physical Education and Schools Lead, said: “ It was fantastic to have so many people together, who are all committed to ensuring PE is at the heart of what schools can offer students.

“The workshops and key note speakers showed the positive impact the subject can have on all aspects of our students lives and I am looking forward to working closely with our schools to further improve the PE offering across the city to ensure our students are getting high quality and enjoyable lessons.”
