The Derby 10K Returns for 2023!

Derby County Community Trust’s flagship event returned on Sunday 26th March, when thousands of runners took to the city streets at the annual Derby 10K.
Running since 2002, the springtime fixture is a permanent part of the city’s calendar, inviting participants from across the region to get involved in the race, which starts and finishes at Pride Park Stadium, before taking in a traffic-free, city centre loop.
Over 3,000 participants registered for this year’s event, sponsored by local sportswear brand HUUB Design, with hundreds more younger participants in the Family Fun Run, sponsored by Motorpoint Derby.
This year, winning times belonged to David Bishop, of HUUB Design, who finished first in 31:22, and Laura Bailey, the first female over the line in 37:11. Second and third places went to Alex Hampson (31:41) and Ben Plummer (32:56), and Georgina Weston (37:32) and Fiona Hughes (37:49) respectively.
The main event is then followed by the Family Fun Run, where younger runners got to earn a medal of their own.
Headline sponsors HUUB Design hosted the course’s official cheer zone, just over the halfway mark, with live DJ set and water station.
This year, the race made a commitment to reducing its carbon footprint, by switching to reusable cups at the water stations, provided by local company Circulayo. Water was provided directly by Severn Trent, removing the use of plastic bottles required on the route.
Dean Jackson, owner and founder of HUUB Design, said:
“As a local sportswear company it’s vital for us to offer our support to events just like the Derby 10K. Although we now specialise in cycling, swimming and triathlons, our roots were in running and to see this many people coming together and taking part in an event which supports their own wellbeing is fantastic.
“Events like this don’t happen often, when the city comes together for the morning to cheer on runners of all abilities. It’s really something that everyone can get involved in.”
Simon Carnall, Head of Community, added:
“It’s been great to welcome back runners to take part in the Derby 10K today. Every year we see people taking on the event as a personal challenge or fundraiser, with some runners trying to go for a personal bests and others here to join in for the very first time.
“As a charity we’re all about supporting health and wellbeing and as our flagship event, the Derby 10K embodies that commitment.”
The event is the Community Trust’s biggest fundraiser, generating thousands of pounds for their vital projects each year. All proceeds are invested into their local projects, which this over the past year have responded to the cost of living crisis through the opening of a warm and welcome space within Pride Park Stadium.
The date of the 2024 Derby 10K will be released in line with EFL fixtures this summer, and all entries will be taken directly thought the Derby County Community Trust’s website.
