Black History Month Celebrations

BHM

Our Inclusion team have been actively encouraging participants to engage in events and celebrate Black History Month throughout October.

We've been part of several great events across the country and shared daily inspirational figures, nominated by our staff and participants.

Preston North End vs Derby County

On Saturday 16th October, we took ten Kicks participants to Preston as part of their dedicated Kick It Out fixture. We faced their Kicks team prior to the first team game, then watched the Rams take on the Lilywhites at the Deepdale Stadium.

Liverpool PL Kicks Tournament

At the start of October half term, we were invited to take part in Liverpool Foundation's Black History Month tournament.

Before attending the tournament we also visited several Liverpool city centre sights, including the International Slavery Museum.

Clough Challenge Cup

Back on home turf, we welcomed Burton Albion and Nottingham Forest's PL Kicks team to take part in the first Clough Challenge Cup.

The Brewers were victorious on the day, taking home the silverware. All participants also took part in a hip hop workshop delivered by local music charity Baby People.

Daily Inspirational Quotes

Every year, we ask our staff and participants to nominate black figures throughout history who have inspired them. This year, we saw a range of nominees, including Akon, Marcus Rashford, Dwayne Johnson, Idris Elba and Jackie Roosevelt-Robinson.

Derby County Community Trust is committed to celebrating Black History Month each October, and have had a fantastic month in 2021.
