Frank’s Story

Frank

For 21-year-old Frank, sport was always a huge part of his childhood. Now, thanks to the involvement of Derby County Community Trust’s Community Engagement sessions, sport has become a reason to focus and keep active.

Working in collaboration with key partners and local borough councils, we aim to ensure the power of Derby County can support communities well beyond the Pride Park borders, offering football and multi-sports sessions for young people aged 8 -19 years in communities across Derbyshire.

Frank first began attending sessions as a teenager, and over the past two years has made the transition from participant to volunteer, using his experiences to help inspire others.

“I saw many leaflets advertising different sessions and thought I’d give it a go, I’m so glad that I did, as I got to meet new people and since that first session, I've attended pretty much every week.

“The Trust have been great with not only me, but with everyone who attends each session to make sure everyone is having the best time.

“All the staff make sure everyone enjoys themselves at every session and always make sure no one is left out.

“For me personally, being asked to see if I wanted to maybe do some volunteering work is an exciting opportunity – it could potentially lead to paid work and after being involved for so many years, it’s an opportunity which I couldn’t turn down.

“I’m excited for what the future brings. I will continue to try and be positive in any way I can and make sure everyone is having a good time. I have a good set of friends which I’ve met through attending these activities, and they are always there to lift you back up when you are feeling low, and always planning activities to do.”

Sessions currently operate over a broad range of locations in Derbyshire, including: Chesterfield, North East Derbyshire, Erewash, Amber Valley and South Derbyshire.
