Danny's Story
Meet Danny
Alongside his studies rather than playing football, Football and Education student Danny has spent his Tuesday and Wednesday’s volunteering with the Trust’s Schools and Coaching team. As part of his volunteering Danny’s spent time helping deliver sports sessions across our schools.
He said: “I thought that coming down the coaching path would be beneficial for me, rather than playing football. I feel like that I’ll get two years’ experience coaching, learning from others and see the different ways of doing things.”
Danny’s enjoyed his time so far and has found the skills learnt on the education course valuable.
“I’ve found it really good; I’ve learnt a lot of things, a lot of new skills and I’ve come out of my comfort zone in a few different areas,” he said. “Within my college work we’ve done some areas of coaching, dealing with matters of health and safety, how would you deal with different situations and I’ve come here and be able to use it. We’ve coached in college as well, so it helped my confidence coming here.”
As well seeing a benefit personally he’s also had the opportunity to see the impact that his coaching has had on the pupils he’s worked with.
He explained: “It’s helped me a lot and it’s good that I’ve had the opportunity to come out and do this.
“It’s nice to see that the pupils get something out of it as well. It’s nice to see that they can achieve things, from week one we practice throwing and then come week six they’re doing really well in the throwing activities it’s a great feeling seeing that they’ve done well.”
