Derby County Community Trust hosted our annual local Utilita Girls Cup tournament where 14 U13 school teams from across Derbyshire competed to gain the opportunity to represent Derby County in the next round.

The schools taking part on the day were St John Houghton Catholic Voluntary Academy, Da Vinci Academy, Heanor Gate Science College, Hope Valley College, West Park School, Ecclesbourne School and Shirebrook Academy.

The group games saw Ecclesbourne School, Heanor Gate Science College, Chellaston Academy and West Park School progress to the semi finals, where two tight matches ensued. Heanor Gate continued to the final after a 3-1 victory against Ecclesbourne, and West Park progressed after coming from behind to beat Chellaston in extra time, sealing their place in the final with a 4-3 scoreline.

The final saw West Park victorious in a 2-0 win over Heanor Gate, meaning they will move on to the next round representing Derby County in the area final against other winning teams from East Midlands clubs.

Joe Gallimore who was running the event from Derby County Community Trust said, “It is the third year that West Park have taken the title and the school’s commitment to girls’ football in and out of the curriculum is admirable. The girls last year won the area final to go on to the semi-finals of the competition, so fingers crossed this year’s team follow in their footsteps!”

Derby County Community Trust hosts the Utilita Girls Cup (U13) and the Utilita Kids Cup (U11) every year. This season’s Utilita Kids Cup first round will take place in January with limited spaces remaining for mixed or single sex teams. To book your school in please contact [email protected].
