On Sunday 28th April, the Derby County Walking Football Evening Over 50s team won the Derbyshire League with one game left to play!

Walking football is a variant of association football that is aimed at keeping people aged over 50 involved with football if, due to a lack of mobility or for other reason, they are not able to play the traditional game.

This is the first time the squad have won the league since it’s formation three years ago. The team come together to play against other teams in the Derbyshire League every Wednesday at the Powerleague Soccersome.

It’s been looking good for the Derby County squad from the get go, and the stats speak for themselves; Games played (13), games won (10) and games drawn (3).

The Trust’s team has been sponsored by Drinkaware since 2017. During this partnership, Drinkaware has provided the team with football kits that were debuted last year at the inaugural Walking Football Cup, which saw teams from Sheffield Wednesday, Heanor Strollers, Nottingham Forest and QPR travel to Derby to compete.
