Rams Stars Do Battle in Sporting Quiz Night!

Thursday 9th March saw a group of former players, current players and broadcasters get together for a Question of Sport style event at Pride Park Stadium.

Roger Davies, Rob Kozluk and George Thorne teamed up to take on Roy McFarland, Michael Johnson and Radio Derby’s Owen Bradley in battle of sporting knowledge hosted by Colin Gibson.

The evening kicked off with Question of Sport style rounds, including ‘What Happens Next’ which gave Roger Davies the chance to watch his famous miss against Chelsea once again.

After five rounds and a lot of laughter watching ambassadors Roy McFarland and Roger Davies trying to act out the names of famous sports teams, the scores were tied. Owen Bradley’s knowledge came to the fore in the tie breaker, quickly naming Goran Ivanisevic as the last wildcard to win the men’s championship at Wimbledon and earning the win for Team Roy 24-23.

Following on from the victory, both teams along with the audience for the night went on to complete a pub quiz comprising of Derby County and general sports knowledge questions. Matt Horibon, Nathan Horibon, Chris Rhodes and Lee Greatorex romped to victory, winning themselves a tour of the Derby County Training Centre in partnership with the University of Derby in the process.

The purpose of the event was to raise funds and awareness for the club’s official charity, the Derby County Community Trust. Working across the county, DCCT deliver a wide range of programmes, aiming to improve the lives of the people of Derbyshire.

Following the event, Luke Wilkinson from the Community Trust said:

“It’s been a great initiative and everyone seems to have really enjoyed themselves, events like these are vital in raising funds for the Community Trust and the work we complete across the county.

“The football club have been fantastic, it’s great to have them on board in organising and promoting these events and we hope it is the first of many.”
