Derby County Community Trust invites you to an information evening on Thursday 18th July, 7.00-8.30pm, at Pride Park Stadium to learn more about the Rams in Kenya 2020 trip.

Rams in Kenya is an annual trip to the schools in the slums of Nakuru, Kenya, which invites Derby County fans, Derby County Community Trust supporters or simply anyone with an interest to take on the trip of a lifetime and improve life for children in the project’s five partner schools.

The 2019 trip saw over 50 volunteers go overseas and help those in need. There are no formal skills required whatsoever on the trip, just a dedication to helping and getting stuck in. This year’s youngest volunteers were 8-year-old twins, and the eldest 78, showing that you can take part regardless of age, job or skill set.

This year’s trip was the eighth visit to Nakuru, and volunteers improved classroom facilities and ensured the safety of the school grounds, pioneered a new moveable partition wall with ‘Botl Blox’, taught pupils and provided recreational activities too in our existing four partner schools: Ungana, Cherist, Mama Kerry and Jubilee.

We started working at a new partner school, Chaddy Mission, where the team helped demolish timber and tin classrooms and replace them with brick ones, along with providing new kitchenware. They also brought musical activity into the school.

Volunteers also get the opportunity to take part in the Rift Valley Adventure Day which is a visit to the Nakuru National Safari, Thompson Falls and The Equator. There is also the chance to visit the Menengai Crater, an elephant orphanage and the giraffe manor in Nairobi.

Facilitated by African Adventures, the trip benefits the Derby County Community Trust and also the impoverished areas around Nakuru, in Kenya.

Every volunteer is tasked with raising the below amounts which cover flights, transfers, accommodation and three meals per day, plus a contribution towards the Community Trust’s programmes at home and the Kenyan school projects.

Any volunteers aged under 16 must be accompanied by a parent/guardian unless permission is granted from the trip organiser.

Two-week option = £2,730 per person – departing 16th May 2020*

One-week option = £2,030 per person – departing 23rd May 2020*
