Lisa Allen is a past substance abuser who made a life changing decision and is now on the road to recovery, with help from the Derby County Community Trust Team and the Active Choice Programme.

After years of being in and out of hostels, living on the streets and excessive drinking, Lisa’s body began to shut down and she knew something had to change.

Lisa entered a rehab facility weighing just 5 and a half stone. This decision saved Lisa’s life and as her health began to improve, she was able to reach out and gain contact with family members and start her new journey to recovery.

Soon after, Lisa learnt about Active Choices through a friend and signed herself up straight away.

Her health, fitness and general well-being have improved massively since starting the programme.

DCCT Coaches have encouraged Lisa to join the Recovery RAMS Football for Girls Team and take part in ‘gym drop-ins’ as well as other active classes.

She’s recently ran for Race For Life in Derby finishing 9th with an impressive time of 25 minutes!

Lisa is now training to run in the Derby 10K next April and is a Peer Mentor for the charity Aquarius.

Lisa’s story provides a huge inspiration for other people struggling with substance misuse and how determination combined with DCCT support, can change your life for the better.
