Derby County duo Richard Keogh and Chris Martin attended a Holiday Coaching session at Belper Leisure Centre yesterday (Thursday 18th August).
The coaching session, organised by the Derby County Community Trust, has been taking place across the summer holidays and provides a great opportunity for youngsters to practice their skills, take part in tournaments, make new friends and have fun whilst benefiting from the coaching from the DCCT team.
The arrival of the duo sparked a lot of excitement amongst the young participants many of whom are big Derby fans and season ticket holders. They got the time on the player’s arrival to probe their heroes with questions about being a pro footballer and the season ahead.
For the remainder of the session Keogh and Martin even got the chance to take part in a kickabout, helping participants with their skills and taking on each other in a 9v9 match.
Once the match had come to an end they took plenty of time to chat to kids, sign shirts and pose for photographs, much to delight of the youngsters.
Following the visit, Rams Striker Martin said:
“It’s been great to get out in the community today, I’ve got a couple of kids myself so it’s nice come out and put smiles on these little guys faces.
“A lot of these kids will aspire to be footballers so it’s good that we can come out here, help them out and show them where their hard work can take them.”
Richard Keogh added:
“It’s been good, I can remember being a kid and coming to soccer schools similar to this in the holidays and they’ve got a good bunch of kids here, I’ve really enjoyed it.”
“It was good to come down and surprise them and give a bit back, they’re fans of the football club so its good to come have a kick around with them.”
Holiday coaching will continue on a weekly basis at Belper Leisure Centre until the end of the summer holidays. Sessions also take place in other venues across the county.
