Last year, we launched the Sensory Room with the aim to eliminate any segregation from who can, and who can’t, enjoy a game of football at Pride Park Stadium.

Here’s some of the wonderful and positive feedback we have received from parents and carers:

1. “It was a fantastic night out and a brilliant way to introduce Reece to Derby County. His enthusiasm to watch a Derby game has been mounting for a few months but we had no idea how he’d manage with a game or even if he’d make half time. He surpassed all our expectations and sat through the the whole match. He loved relaxing in the sensory room before and during half time and he happily went back out to watch the second half afterwards.

Stuart and Karen – absolute legends! Reece took to them straight away. We couldn’t believe how attentive and accommodating they both were. They looked after Reece, and us so well and answered all of Reece’s questions (there are always a lot). We managed to find a number of people that Reece, Stuart and Karen all knew so Reece was very excited to have people in common.

We cannot thank you enough for the experience and hope that many other families have the privilege of using this fabulous facility and being welcomed by such lovely people. Thank you also for accommodating Beth. She was in her element and felt like a VIP. The sheer thrill of watching football whilst sat on a padded seat, having carpet instead of concrete and sitting a few seats away from the players has made her year. Typical ten year old! I’m hoping to bring her along to one of the wildcat’s training sessions after Christmas.”

2. “I just wanted to say a huge thank you for allowing us to use the sensory room this afternoon. Due to Ava’s autism we rarely find anything that all of us can enjoy and do together, but today was just amazing and we can’t thank you enough.

The room and the staff were fantastic! We were all made to feel welcome and Ava was immediately at ease despite being in unfamiliar surroundings. The visit from Rammie was an added bonus and made Ava’s day!

Today you have allowed us to do something that otherwise would have been almost impossible! We are all huge Derby fans but never thought we would be able to watch a game live altogether and I am extremely grateful.”

3. “The sensory room is fantastic. He had such a nice time today being able to go into the sensory room and come out and watch the match when he wanted to.  It was so nice to be able to take him to see Derby play as I could never have done that without your sensory room.  The two staff there were so friendly and happy and lovely too.

I honestly can’t fault any of this evening at all.  Meeting Rammie was such an amazing bonus too! It was the perfect way for Morgan to be able to be involved in football and watch a match.  I am so grateful that you offer special needs people this. It is incredible.”

4. “It made a huge difference to Michael having his own space, being able to go inside and play with fidget toys. He said he loved it! The staff in there were so friendly and helpful too, which was great.

It made the whole experience much more enjoyable for Michael and us too knowing he felt better and more comfortable in his surroundings.”
