Active Recovery is a cancer exercise and rehabilitation programme which works with anyone who has been recovering from or living with cancer within the last five years.
The aims are for participants to become more active, feel better within themselves and feel more energised in their day-to-day life, this will be done by taking part in fun strength, fitness and sport activities aimed at all abilities.
We work closely with Derby Royal Hospital in order for the programme to have a greater reach amongst those affected. We’d like to share some positive feedback we have recently received from participants who benefit from the programme, to encourage others to utilise the sessions and support the programme provides:
“I am finding the Active Recovery programme very helpful, I feel the gentle exercises are helping me regain some of my suppleness and confidence in movement. I also feel it is good to chat to other people in the group who have, and are experiencing similar difficulties. I feel the instructors have got the right balance when taking the class, as there is no pressure to do anything, everyone working according to their own ability. Thank you”
“I was telling my doctor yesterday just how special Active Recovery is (I tell everyone about it but had an appointment to discuss things yesterday and how important you all are to my life). It’s incredible how I’m feeling about this next fight I find myself in, but it feels so much better knowing that Active Recovery are always there. I am determined to not let chemo or appointments get in the way of coming along. It’s as much for my mental well-being as well as physical health, and I love being around everyone.”
“One of the best things to happen to me over the past couple of years was discovering the Active recovery programme and meeting all you wonderful people.
So it’s a good job that you sent me a email as I might have got a bit emotional otherwise!!”
Active Recovery is a free 12 month programme to anyone from Derby or Derbyshire.
